Volunteer Program

Iowa Donor Network’s volunteer program offers donor family members, transplant recipients and others who have been touched by donation or transplantation an opportunity to share their stories and inspire others to donate life.

Become a Volunteer

The first step to becoming an Iowa Donor Network volunteer is to complete the volunteer application. After your application is received, you’ll be invited to attend our mandatory volunteer orientation.

Volunteer Orientation

Volunteers are asked to attend an orientation and training session to learn more about Iowa Donor Network, the basics of organ, eye and tissue donation and the rewarding volunteer opportunities available to support our mission. This session will help those who would like to speak publicly and share their connection to donation and transplantation as well as those who would rather educate the public one-on-one at health fairs and special events.

Each new volunteer who attends a training session will receive a handbook and other resources that includes facts, figures and answers to common questions about donation as well as a thorough explanation of the volunteer program’s goals, expectations and policies.

Volunteers can also take part in optional, specialized workshops and educational opportunities throughout the year to enhance their knowledge of donation and maximize your ability to influence the public.

Volunteer Opportunities

Iowa Donor Network offers a wide variety of volunteer opportunities. Below are a few examples of opportunities to serve:

  • Health Fairs and Donor Registration Drives - We receive numerous requests for volunteers to distribute brochures and answer questions about donation and encourage the public to register to become organ, tissue and eye donors.
  • Speaking Engagements - Sharing a personal story is one of the most effective ways to educate the public about the importance of organ and tissue donation. We receive many requests for speakers from various groups in the community. We encourage our volunteers to seek speaking engagements on their own. Our speakers can also be interviewed by news media or address audiences at special events.
  • Special Events - Throughout the year we organize and participate in various events which require volunteer support.
  • Administrative Support - There are opportunities to assist IDN staff with administrative projects throughout the year.

Our Vision:

All are inspired to donate life.
